Marj has got to be one of the most experienced and versatile singers to have graced the many stages she has performed on over the years, all over Scotland, nationally and internationally.
Her singing career started as backup singer at a very early age in a band who supported a world famous star at the Glasgow Apollo! That band broke up but from there she started doing some open mics and shows. From there, she went on to start presenting karaoke for a year when karaoke was new and fresh. Doing this in clubs and pubs all over Scotland opened up this type of world to her and from there she formed her first Duo and started playing in the pubs and clubs in the Duo format.
She has gigged constantly since then and has seen many collaborations and bands over the years in all types of genres including another Duo, country bands (playing the country clubs and festival circuit), jazz band, various tribute bands (including 3 x Abba tributes, Blues Brothers tribute, Duran Duran tribute, 80’s Tribute), not forgetting Atlantic Soul Showband which she founded, managed, sang lead and harmony vocals in, arranged choreography and everything to do with running a band. This band folded in 2013 after 15 very successful years being one of the most respected professional live bands in Scotland. At the same time as running & gigging in Atlantic Soul, she gigged here and abroad as a solo and duo doing different tribute acts (including Soul & Motown Show, Abba, 70’s, Tina Turner, Shania Twain, Blondie, Cher to name a few).
Over the years, she’s performed in top venues like SECC and AECC, international gigs in 5-star prestigious hotels and resorts in the Middle East (Bahrain, Dubai), the USA – New York BB King’s, Broadway in Nashville, Memphis, Texas, Las Vegas, Australia in 2011, and all over Europe. She also did a year of Cruise work in 2009. She performed in the Carribean (Jamaica) in 2018 where she got to sing and perform alongside the legendary Luddy Samms (ex Drifters for over 20 years).
As founder member, band manager and lead singer of Atlantic Soul Showband, she gigged and toured relentlessly with the band for 15 years all over the UK and internationally playing hundreds of weddings, corporate events, festivals, private events, military events. She folded the band early 2013. With Atlantic Soul, Marj certainly lived up to the professional status a band of that size and calibre demanded. Hard work, but oh it was so fun. She has also had the pleasure of meeting, sharing the bill and performing with some Soul and Motown legends. And she brings a wealth of experience of performing in this genre (soul, funk, northern, soul, disco, rnb) having done it for so many years with her showband.
She has also travelled in the southern states of America at the end of 2012 where she had the pleasure and privilege of singing with some awesome musicians and singers in Miami Florida, Daytona Beach Florida, Mobile Alabama and also in New Orleans, Louisiana, the highlight of which was being asked to sing the Lord’s praises in a gospel church in Alabama with the full band and choir, which was one of her lifetime dreams fulfilled.
Quite recently, for the space of about 3 years, Marj was a huge part of Dave Finnegan’s Commitments, London based Commitments band featuring original film member. She gigged and toured with the band extensively all over the UK from 2015 until 2018. She resigned from this post to further advance the other projects she was working on at the time, which included a 12pc soul & disco band, The Piano Man, Billy Joel tribute band, Shoot the Craw, 5pc classic rock band and a tonne of dep work for various bands mostly down south in England.
2019 saw big changes in that she folded Shoot the Craw, no longer had Dave Finnegan’s Commitments s it was time to begin a brand new big project. 2019 was the birth of The Eurythmacs, a professional tribute show paying homage to the legendary Annie Lennox and Eurythmics. The show focuses on the stadium tours and million selling albums from the 1980s and early 1990s and is a spectacular live show, suitable for festivals, 80s and 90s nostalgia events, tribute venues and large corporate events. She has also been making various appearances with Fleetwood Max as “Stevie Nicks” in another fantastic live tribute show to Fleetwood Mac.
Going forward into 2020, Marj can be booked solo or with The Eurythmacs, The Billy Joel Experience, Fleetwood Max, The Mighty Poons and you may see her popping up as a dep in various live shows elsewhere from weddings to tributes.
From top class venues to wee back street pubs, nothing fazes Marj. She is a true professional, versatile and experienced in all aspects of live performance work. Her experience in top-end corporate work, her rare mix of infectious personality together with amazing vocal prowess will guarantee that unique touch to your event.
Early booking is advised as her diary tends to fill up very early in the year and very quickly, Saturdays always filling first.
